Workshop on Southeast Asian Primary Learning Metric SEA-PLM


The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) has established the Southeast Asian Primary Learning Metric Initiative (SEA-PLM) to develop a common primary education learning metrics for SEA countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Singapore, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

SEAMEO, in partnership with the UNICEF East Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) officially launched the second phase of the SEA-PLM on 20 October 2014 with participating SEAMEO Member Countries, SEAMEO Centres and Partners. With technical expertise and support of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the Domain Frameworks for SEA-PLM based on review of all 11 SEAMEO Member Countries curriculum are currently being finalized.

SEAMEO QITEP in Science dispatch Mrs. Dewi Ratih Fuji Astuti, Research and Development and IBSE Capacity Building Officer to join the workshop and contribute to share her idea to the items development for mathematics domain being finalized. The mathematics domain started from 1st – 3rd June2015, parallel with the reading domain.  On 4th June 2015, writing domain and global citizenship domain were also in parallel session. The last day,  5th June was only for global citizenship domain.

The final vision of the SEA-PLM is to scale it up across the Southeast Asia region allowing Member Countries to better gauge their progress internally but also in relation to other Member Countries, whilst also supporting the development of common standards for assessment across the region. It should also contribute towards enhanced standards of curriculum, management and teaching and learning.
