Training Course on Science Classroom Supervision


To improve the competencies of principals and supervisors in enhancing the quality of science teachers and education personnel in the efforts to achieve an effective school management, SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) conducted Training Course on Science Classroom Supervision attended by science teachers, school principals and supervisors from seven SEAMEO member countries, such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam. The training was conducted from 3 to 12 June 2015 in Marbella suites hotel, Bandung.

The training was opened by Prof Triyanta, the Director of SEAQIS, accompanied by Dr Maman Wijaya, the Deputy Director for Administration, and Ms Tati Setiawati, the academic coordinator of the event. The subjects included in the training were Science Development in 21st Century, Education Quality Assurance System in School, Effective School Leadership in 21st Century, School Based Management, Teacher Preofessional Development, Instructional management, Science Classroom Supervision Programme, School Visit, Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE), Motivation and Creativity Building, Country Report (Best Practice), and Action Plan. The resource persons of the training were experts and practitioners from Ministry of Education and Culture, SEAMEO BIOTROP, Garut Regency Education Office (Dinas Pendidikan Kab Garut), CDETEP in Science (PPPPTK IPA), Education Quality Assurance of Bali (LPMP Bali), and SEAQIS. 

The participants visited SDN Cicabe Bandung to implement the supervision techniques using instruments they developed during the training curse. They also joined cultural programme by visiting Saung Angklung Udjo to watch Angklung performance. At the end of the programme, they were actively involved in Cultural Exchange programme by performing their traditional songs and dances.

Through this training course, the participants is expected to be able to:

  1. comprehend Quality Assurance Framework in Continuing Professional Development of Teachers and Education Personnel;
  2. evaluate effective leadership in promoting effective school in 21st Century;
  3. comprehend instructional management of instructional process;
  4. develop supervision school programme  to achieve an effective school;
  5. develop science classroom supervision instrument; and
  6. plan achievement and issues in academic supervision of science learning.
