The Launching of Adopting 21st Century Curriculum through SEA Digital Class


HE Anies Baswedan, Ph.D., the Minister of Education and Culture, launched a collaborative program between three SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia (SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, SEAMEO QITEP in Science, and SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics) and Education Office of Bandung through a video conference in SDPN Sabang on Firday, 18 September 2015. This program is one the seven priorities programs of SEAMEO, and also one of the education agenda in Southeast Asia from 2015 – 2035, and it is also one of the programs in celebrating the 50th anniversary of SEAMEO entitled SEAMEO Smart City.

The launching was attended by the director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, director of SEAQIS, Prof. Triyanta, director of SEAQIM, Prof. Subanar, and the head of Education Office of Bandung, Dr Elih Sudiapermana. It was also attended by school principals invoved in the program.

The launching was started by conducting an online diagnostic test in science and mathematics subject for students’ grade five and eight. 35 elementary schools and 15 lower secondary schools from state-own school and private school participated in the test, and it involved around 3000 students.

This program involving eleven SEAMEO member countries is aimed at improving the quality of science and mathematics education, teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia. The program will be conducted for four years. Through the digital class, teachers across the region could collaborate to develop materials, and share their experience to each other.
