Teachers from Bandung Learned How to Develop HOTS Questions


There are 90 teachers of Elementary School, Junior High School, Senior High School, and Vocational High School participated in the Workshop on Developing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at Marbella Suites Bandung, from 15 to 18 February 2016. This workshop, which was organized by SEAMEO QITEP in Science in cooperation with Local Education Office Bandung, was aimed to improve teachers’ ability in identifying and developing HOTS questions.

The activity was attended and officially opened by the Head of Local Education Office, Dr. Elih Sudiapermana. Meanwhile, the speakers of the workshop were lecturers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education, University of Indonesia Prof Anna Permanasari and Dr. Ana Ratna Wulan; as well as the Director of SEAMEO QITEP in Language who is also a lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia, Dr Felicia Nuradi Utorodewo.

This workshop was conducted to fulfill the needs of teachers in formulating questions which could encourage students to have critical, creative, and also innovative thinking. In addition, the speakers also delivered a way to create effective questions. Heni, one of the participants of the workshop said that “after attending this event, we can understand how to construct HOTS questions without making students difficult to understand the purpose of the questions.

The participants of the workshop are teachers who will develop questions of online test for science and mathematics. The online test will be organized by SEAMEO QITEP in Science in collaboration with SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics and SEAMEO SEAMOLEC in four phases from March to May 2016.
