In-Country Training on Innovative Works and Scientific Publications in Batam

Year after year, the Centre holds in-country training programmes to improve the competencies of science teachers in Southeast Asia region. One of them is the Training on Innovative Works and Scientific Publications held in SMPN 4 BATAM, Bengkong, Batam, Kepulauan Riau from 2 to 5 June 2016. The training­, intended for junior high school teachers, is a collaborative programme between the Centre and the Science Teacher Forum I Batam. It was officially opened by the Director of SEAQIS and Batam’s Education Department Secretary.

The training was attended by 41 participants consisting of the science teachers from regional I and the science teacher delegates from regional II, III and, IV. The purpose of the training was to enhance the teachers’ competence in writing scientific publications on classroom action research. In addition it was aimed to develop teachers’ innovative works in designing educational props.

The pattern implemented in this training is in-on-in pattern that comprised of the 1st in-service training, the research implementation, and the 2nd in-service training. The training used andragogy approach and the methods implemented in the training were lectures, group discussions, assignments, and participants’ presentation of assignment. Meanwhile, the output of the 1st in service training is the classroom action research and innovative works on educational props.
