From 24-27 July 2017, SEAMEO QITEP in Science has participated the 49th SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC) Conference in Hotel Mulia Jakarta, Indonesia. The event is the largest gathering of education ministers which aims to foster stronger cooperation in the education sector among Southeast Asian countries and other SEAMEO members.  491592   952587

The opening ceremony was addressed by H.E. Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy, the Minister of Education of Indonesia, and was well attended by other senior education ministers from 11 SEAMEO member states including Thailand, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. The Minister of Education of Indonesia will serve as President of SEAMEO council in the 2017-2019 period.

The agenda of the 49th SEAMEC Conference was mainly focused on ongoing activities of the SEAMEO 7 Priority in Southeast Asia that was highligted in the Strategic Dialogue of Education Ministers on Education forum under the theme “Evaluation on the Implementation of the 7 Priority Areas on Education and Strategy to Move Forward”. Other activities were also carried out in the conference such as  the signing of legal documents of three new SEAMEO Centres (SEAMEO CECCEP, SEAMEO CED, and SEAMEO TED), product exhibition of SEAMEO Centres, and also the presentation of SEAMEO Award. Mr. Haidar Helmi and Mr. Cecen Supardi represented SEAMEO QITEP in Science to receive the SEAMEO Award.  The official delegate of SEAMEO QITEP in Science attending the conference consisted of the centre director (Prof. Triyanta), the deputies (Dr. Indarjani and Mrs. Lili Indarti), and the Head of Programme Division (Mr. Reza Setiawan).

The SEAMEO Council Conference is the biennial agenda of SEAMEO.  The conference brought many strategic policies implemented in the member countries.  The better advancement in education remains the priority of its consensus.
