Welcome to the latest edition of SEAMEO QITEP in Science Newsletter. This volume compiles Centre’s activities and programmes from March to August 2015. This volume reports four regular trainings namely training course on science laboratory management, science classroom supervision, earth and space science, and environmental education for sustainable development.
The major agenda highlighted in this volume is lecture delivered by Prof. Emil Salim in the training course on environmental education for sustainable development and earth and space science. In this session he exposed about the sustainable development and its implementation.
Other important activities discussed in this chapter is High-Level Policy Forum on IBSE collaborated with Indonesia Academy of Sciences (AIPI). Prof. Bruce Alberts was the keynote speaker of the forum.
Various activities and programmes are also emphasized in this edition such as the visit of SEAMEO Council President, collaboration of Indonesian SEAMEO Centres, public lecture by Prof. Takehiro Hayashi of Hiroshima University, so on and so forth.
Through the implementation of those programmes and activities, the Centre keeps its commitments in developing and improving the capacity of science teachers in the region.

QITEP in Science Newsletter Year 2015 Vol. 6 No. 1 (September 2014 – February 2015)

Dear Readers,

All praise to God almighty, the Centre successfully releases the newsletter volume no. 6 year 2015. This edition reports the Centre’s programmes conducted from March to December 2014. The programmes cover training courses for science teachers, workshops, conferences, and other activities. The Centre also maintains collaboration with educational institutions in Southeast Asia and beyond.
One of the important agenda highlighted in this issue is the approval of the Second Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP) during the Fifth Governing Board Meeting in Solo, Indonesia. Therefore the Centre shall use its Second FYDP as guidelines in conducting its programmes and activities.
This edition also reports the Centre’s collaboration with ISTIC and LAMAP foundation in conducting the Training Workshop on Inquiry-Based Science Education. Beside continuing the established collaboration, the Centre also initiates partnership with SEAMEO BIOTROP, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics and SEAMEO RETRAC in conducting several activities including regular trainings, in-country trainings, and collaborative trainings.
These series of activities and programmes hopefully will improve the competencies of Southeast Asia’s science teachers and education personnel resulting in a student population that is more cognisant of crucial sustainable development with minimal environmental impact in the advancement of the region as a whole.

Dear readers,
Welcome to the first edition of SEAMEO QITEP in Science’s biannual Newsletter for 2014. Since the publication of the previous edition in August last year, the Centre has continued its enthusiastic and dynamic involvement in the ASEAN science education community. Its staff have conducted multiple training workshops nationally and internationally, facilitated and partici- pated in conferences, forums and symposiums with- in Indonesia and in other SEAMEO member nations, and made official visits to China and Malaysia in order to increase networking and explore opportu- nities for collaboration. Finally, the Centre has con- tinued its cooperation with the Australian science community through the PRAISE Program (Promoting Real Australian-Indonesian Science Education), which has proved to be an overwhelming success, benefiting teachers and students immensely.

From May until September 20L3, QITEP in Science accomplished three courses (science Laboratory Management, Earth and Space Science and Environmental Education), one lnternational Conference, public lecture and teacher worlshops. We begin the implementation stage of Promoting Real Australian Indonesian Science Education (PRAISE) program as well. The Centre mantains collaboration with educational institution in Southeast Asia countries and beyond. One of the new collaborative program that will be performed is with lnternational Science, Technology, and lnnovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (lSTlC), an educational organization under auspices of UNESCO.

The 3rd Governing Board Meeting of SEAMEO QITEP in Science was convened in Jakarta, 14 – 16
September 2012. The official opening was remarked by the Vice Minister for Education, Ministry of
Education and Culture of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Musliar Kasim MS. The meeting was also attended by the Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Dr. Witaya Jeradechakul. As formerly held by Mr. Giri Suryatmana (board member of Indonesia), the new chair elected in the meeting was Dato’ Dr. Haili bin Dolhan, board member of Malaysia, for the next third year terms of leadership. Other board members present in the meeting were board member of Brunei Darussalam (Ms. Nadia Lee Siew Hoon), representative member of Lao PDR (Mr. Khet Phanlack), member of Philippinnes (Dr. Carolina Guerero), member of Singapore (Dr. Charles Chew), member of Thailand (Dr. Pornpun Waitayangkoon) and member of Vietnam (Prof. Le Puoc Minh), and representative member of Myanmar (Dr. Mya Mya Aye).

In our third volume newsletter, you can find our activities during February until August 2012.  It consists of our regular activities, the efforts in improving the Centre and our staff’s capacity, and other academic forums that conducted by collaboration with other institutions. The special event featured in this newsletter is the Workshop on Comparative Study on Science Curriculum of SEAMEO Member Countries. The workshop’s result will be very important as  a part of data based to make any policy regarding science education in SEAMEO member countries.  We also have a special activity report from our alumni, inspired by the training course he was attended. Herewith we also inform you that our upcoming activities in September; The 3rd Governing Board Meeting and The 3rd International Conference.

The special event featured in this newsletter are Linking SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Science with Science Education Expertise in Australia and the Regional Workshop on Secondary Analysis (Using TIMSS Databases) in collaboration with IEA Data Processing and Research Centre, Germany.

This is the fourth edition of our newsletter. Here, we will inform you about our activities on 2011: The Second GBM, The Second International Conference, Workshops, Trainings, On Job Training of the Environmental Education for Elementary School Level, QITEP in Science participation in various events, and also the collaboration between SEAMEO QITEP in Science with some other institutions. The special event featured in this newsletter are The Second Governing Board Meeting and The Second International Conference.
SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (QITEP) in Science Governing Board (GB) is the Centre’s highest policy-making body. The GB is composed of representatives from each SEAMEO member countries who are nominated by their respective Ministers/Secretaries of Education and appointed by the SEAMEO Council. The GB is responsible for the Centre’s operational policies.

Here, we will inform you about our activities on 2011: Workshops, our six trainings, international conference, on job training of the environmental education for elementary school level, QITEP in Science participation in various events, and also the collaboration between SEAMEO QITEP in Science with some institutions.The special event featured in this newsletter is the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SEAMEO Regional Center for QITEP in Science and National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC) to collaborate in undertaking programmes, projects, and other related activities for a period of five years.
