Remapping the SEAQIS’ Plans Through The 14th Governing Board Meeting

To enhance its flagship programmes, SEAQIS convened the annual 14th Governing Board (GB) Meeting. The event proceeded successfully with support from all participants at The Sakala Resort, Badung, Bali, from 18 to 21 September 2023. It aimed to present reports on activities and programmes for the past year. In addition, this event is also a place to propose some ideas for the development of SEAQIS in the future.

On the first day, Prof Dr Nunuk Suryani (Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel) gave welcoming remarks indicating that the event had officially opened. In her speech, she said, “…We commend the dedication of SEAMEO QITEP in Language and SEAMEO QITEP in Science in this endeavour and express our ministry’s full support. I encourage productive discussions during the Governing Board Meetings and wish all delegates to have an enjoyable time in Bali.”

All GB Members from Southeast Asia countries attended this 14th meeting, including Mr Putra Asga Elevri (the Director of Secondary and Special Education Teachers) as Indonesia’s GB Member. Moreover, the representatives from the Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations, the Secretariat of the Directorate General of Teacher and Education Personnel, the Professional Development Centre for Educators of West Java Province, as well as the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology joined as observers.

On the second and third days, 19 and 20 September, SEAQIS and participants discussed the nine working papers provided by SEAQIS as well as its plans related to the 15th GB Meeting next year, which will then be further discussed with SEAMEO QITEP in Language and SEAMEO QITEP in Math.

The 14th Governing Board Meeting was closed with a visit to Tanah Lot, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, and Uluwatu to watch a Kecak dance performance. After this year’s GB Meeting, SEAQIS is expected to increase its contribution to education in Southeast Asia as mandated by the GB Members.
