A meeting has been held between SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS), Indonesian Academy of Science (AIPI), and the Acting Director of United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organizational (UNESCO) Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Prof Dr Shahbaz Khan on 23 April 2015 in Jakarta, at the UNESCO House.<\/p>\n

During the talk, the sides discussed the prospects of SEAMEO QITEP in Science to strengthen the cooperation with AIPI and UNESCO in the fields of science and education. Prof Dr Khan, representing UNESCO, informed that UNESCO\u2019s project in strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) currricula for girls in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific has been approved. In this project, SEAMEO QITEP in Science is appointed as one of partner institutions from Indonesia. Dr Indarjani, the Deputy Director for Programme, representing SEAQIS along with its secretary, Ms Lili Indarti and Mr Rizwan Darmawan, believes this project could increase female knowledge and engagement in STEM which may give strategic advantages to the development of education in Indonesia, Malaysia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe as benefetting countries. In addition, Prof Dr Sangkot Marzuki, the President of AIPI, and Dr Sari as representatives of AIPI mentioned that UNESCO, AIPI, and SEAQIS could also build collaboration focused on city water waste management.<\/p>\n

Moreover, in this meeting, SEAQIS and AIPI invited high officials of UNESCO to attend several programmes which will be conducted in 2015, and Prof Khan confirmed that UNESCO high officials could attend the programmes.<\/p>\n

In the margins of the meeting, all the parties agreed to consider the cooperation between SEAQIS, UNESCO, and AIPI will be covered in Memorandum of Agreement (MOU). This cooperation is believed could bring a significant impact to science and education development in Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n
