On 29 May 2023, a Workshop on Fun and Fascinating with Science and Mathematics was held in Binangkit Auditorium of SEAQIS, Bandung. The workshop was held in collaboration between SEAQIS and SEAMEO RECSAM, Malaysia. This workshop was aimed to enhance the competency of science and mathematics teachers in Bandung. In relation to that, SEAMEO RECSAM featured two facilitators, Dr Warabhorn Preechaporn (Dr Lara) and Dr Jeyaletchumi Muthiah (Dr Jaya), delivered the materials in the workshop.
The SEAMEO colour and SEAMEO song videos were played at the beginning of the event. After that, Mr Reza Setiawan as the Deputy Director for Programme of SEAQIS, delivered his speech to officially open the workshop. He mentioned that this workshop should help teachers understand better how to transform complex concepts into enjoyable ones. Therefore, the students can embrace the fun and discovery within science and mathematics.
To display the fun in learning, they demonstrated how science and mathematics are related to the world we live in. They brought up a fascinating activity to prove that idea. The participants were asked to fold origami paper into a flower shape using a mathematical pattern. “Mathematics is beautiful. Mathematics is everywhere, sometimes we just do not notice it,” said Dr. Lara.
To mark the end of the workshop, Dr Shah Jahan bin Assanarkuty as the Director of SEAMEO RECSAM, delivered his closing remarks. Then, both Dr Shah Jahan bin Assanarkuty and Dr Indrawati presented certificates of appreciation to the facilitators and participants.
