SEAMEO QITEP in Science conducted its fifth annual International Conference on Science Education and Teacher Professional Development (ICon) from 25 – 28 September 2014 in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia. It was attended by the 17 most outstanding science teachers from all over Indonesia and eight science teachers from from Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
The conference consisted of a plenary session with international speakers from the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Centre for Science Education, Sheffield Hallam University UK, and Southeast Asian universities. The most outstanding participants’ presentations and posters were delivered, and a workshop was conducted.
The most important aspect of ICon however is providing a forum for Southeast Asian science teachers to exchange knowledge, concerns and experiences in science teaching, learning and assessment. This is crucial to the successful development of the regional science education community.
