Training Course On Inquiry-Based Science Learning in Atambua November 19 – 23, 2012

In order to implement the philosophy of SEAMEO that is Reaching to the Unreached SEAMEO Qitep in Science has successfully conducted the in-country training in Atambua, West Nusa Tenggara from 19-23 November 2012, a border area between Indonesia and Timor Leste. The training titled ‘Inquiry-Based Science Learning’ which participated by 30 local elementary school teachers. This training was acknowledged by Head of Education, Youth and Sport Agency of Atambua District by officially opened of the training. The goal of the training is not only to promote the concept of inquiry-based learning and to enhance the teacher skill in delivering science topics in class, but more importantly is to distribute the message of SEAMEO as international organization to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture in Southeast Asia. The topic of the course was quite comprehensive which covered the Introduction to Inquiry-Based Science Learning, Effective Questioning, Inquiry-Based Learning Assesment, and Developing Lesson Plan. The participants were also introduced to some simple hands-on activities using readily available materials to overcome the limitation of science laboratory equipment in the area. This program can be seen as an initiative of SEAMEO Qitep in Science toward the ASEAN Community in 2015 through education realms, where Indonesia has actively engaged in this multilateral cooperation.
