The Director of SEAMEO QITEP in Science, Prof Ismunandar, and Head of Partnership and Marketing Division, Mrs Atik Rahmawati, visited Timor-Leste from May 14-16 to finalise the collaboration plan tha t was recently discussed with their Vice Minister of Education. Representatives from three other SEAMEO centres also attended, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, Language, and SEAMEO BIOTROP.
On the second day of the visit, the Ministry of Education (MoE) invited the SEAMEO delegation to a meeting hosted by the Vice Minister, Director General (DG) of Primary and Secondary Education, DG of Cooperation Services, DG of Higher Education, Vice President of Institute of Teacher Training, and other MoEofficials. The meeting resulted in the decision that Timor-Leste will actively join and participate in the SEAMEO Centres’ activities, send teachers to SEAMEO courses and representatives as Governing Board members. The MoE also agreed to invite SEAMEO representatives to conduct training for Timor-Leste teachers.
After the discussion the group visited the Centre for Study of Science and Mathematics (SESIM) Office. SESIM is the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO and comprises science and mathematics teacher trainers. QITEP in Science is looking forward to a collaborative program with SESIM in the near future.
