MOU Signing for Ground-breaking Benchmarking Programme between SEAQIS & SEAMEO RECSAM

 

In a significant step towards advancing science education and research in Southeast Asia, SEAQIS (SEAMEO QITEP in Science) and SEAMEO RECSAM have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 29 May 2023 to launch a ground-breaking benchmarking programme. The MoU signing event, held at the SEAQIS Centre in Bandung, marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at driving innovation and excellence in scientific activities across the region.

SEAQIS, renowned for its commitment to professional development in science education, and SEAMEO RECSAM, a leading centre for education in Science and Mathematics, have joined forces to create a platform for research and development activities. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to inform pedagogy, policy, and ultimately elevate the standard of science education in Southeast Asia.

The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both SEAQIS and SEAMEO RECSAM. Dr Indrawati, the Director of SEAQIS, and Dr Shah Jahan, the Director of SEAMEO RECSAM, were among the esteemed attendees who delivered welcoming remarks, expressing their excitement about the prospects of the collaboration.

Dr Shah Jahan expressed a keen interest in collaborating in various areas, including activities, research, and capacity building. Ms. Rashihah, the Deputy Director for Administration at SEAMEO RECSAM, emphasised the importance of working together, stating, “I’m expecting that we can collaborate with SEAQIS in terms of activities, research, and capacity building. So hopefully, we can do it together with SEAQIS.”

The benchmarking program established through the MOU will serve as a catalyst for advancing scientific research and educational practices in the region. By sharing best practices, conducting joint research projects, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives, SEAQIS and SEAMEO RECSAM aim to empower educators, enhance curriculum development, and ultimately improve science education outcomes for students in Southeast Asia. This partnership will not only strengthen collaboration between the two organisations but also foster knowledge exchange, facilitate capacity building, and pave the way for transformative advancements in science education in Southeast Asia. By combining their expertise and resources, SEAQIS and SEAMEO RECSAM are poised to make a lasting impact on the region, driving forward a future of enhanced scientific education and development.
