Some skills that are becoming a global trend in the world of education, culture, and science are engineering skill to foster the 4C’s skills (Critical & problem solving, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration) as well as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
As an effort to meet the demands of global trends in the world of education and support the implementation of Merdeka Belajar policy which has been launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, as well as to develop a programme called Adopting the 21st Century Curriculum from SEAMEO Seven Priority Areas, SEAQIS collaborated with the Professional Development Center for Educators of Maluku Province introduced STEM for secondary school teachers in Maluku . This training was held from 12 to 14 November 2023 at the Manise Hotel, Ambon. It was attended by the Head of Education Office of Ambon, Drs Ferdinandus F Taso, M Si. During the training, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between 7 SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia and Education Office of Ambon.
In the activity entitled Pelatihan Guru dalam Implementasi Kebijakan Merdeka Belajar melalui Pendekatan Holistik, SEAQIS together with six other SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia, had trained 200 teachers. As many as 40 of them were science class participants who were junior high school teachers. Some of the topics presented in the training were learning concepts, characteristics, topic analysis, project design, and science concepts in STEM learning. Furthermore, the training covered the application of STEM in projects to strengthen Pancasila student profiles and the development of STEM learning scenarios both in extracurricular and co-curricular areas. Through this three-day training, teachers are expected to implement STEM in their classrooms.
