Cavite, the Philippines – SEAQIS conducted an In-Country Training at Luis Aguado National High School, Cavite, from 17 to 21 July 2025, under the theme Training on Integration of Technology in Science Learning. The event brought together 40 science teachers and 48 science and technology students, all eager to take part in a series of engaging training sessions.
The training focused on the implementation of project-based learning (PBL) in science education. Participants were guided to design innovative learning experiences by incorporating technological tools such as Micro:bit. In small groups, they discussed and identified real-world phenomena or issues that could serve as project themes, formulated teaching strategies supported by technology, designed practical student activities, and developed assessment instruments. The process not only strengthened their understanding of scientific concepts but also fostered collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
One of the most exciting sessions was the introduction to the Micro:bit device. Before experimenting with the physical hardware, participants explored the online simulator via microbit.org. Through this platform, they were introduced to the interface, main features, and the functions of the buttons and sensors. They also created and ran simple programmes online, allowing them to gain initial hands-on experience before working directly with the actual devices.
Through this activity, SEAQIS not only enhanced teachers’ capacity to design innovative science lessons but also provided students with opportunities to develop 21st-century skills. With a spirit of collaboration, the training served as a concrete step towards advancing the transformation of science learning in Southeast Asia.
