Introducing STEM Innovation with Coding and AI: SEAQIS Trains Teachers in Muara Enim

SEAQIS continues to expand its efforts to drive the transformation of science learning in Indonesia. In collaboration with the Education Office of Muara Enim Regency, SEAQIS organised a STEM Coding and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration training programme for lower secondary science teachers. Conducted in two batches, from 1 to 3 November and 6 to 8 November 2025, the training was attended by 101 teachers from various schools across Muara Enim Regency, Indonesia.

The programme aims to provide teachers with a comprehensive understanding of how coding and artificial intelligence can be integrated into science lessons to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. Through a practice-based approach, participants explored the use of micro:bit, the Microsoft MakeCode programming platform, and Google Teachable Machine to learn the application of simple machine learning concepts within a science context.

Throughout the training, teachers engaged in a range of STEM activities designed to demonstrate the interconnectedness of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Participants created and tested hands-on projects.

Beyond technological and STEM skill development, the training emphasised the importance of teacher creativity in designing learning experiences that are relevant to students in the digital age. Through discussions and technical guidance, participants were encouraged to develop teaching materials integrating Coding and Artificial Intelligence to be implemented in their respective schools as a follow-up to the programme.

This initiative represents a strategic step for Muara Enim Regency in strengthening teacher readiness to navigate the shifting paradigms of 21st-century education. With the support of local government institutions and ongoing assistance from SEAQIS, it is hoped that more schools will adopt STEM learning approaches that emphasise problem-solving and innovation.

This training forms part of SEAQIS’ ongoing innovation in STEM learning, which integrates Coding and Artificial Intelligence as tools to address real-world problems and classroom challenges. By continuing to develop and implement programmes that combine hands-on experimentation with emerging technologies, SEAQIS strengthens its commitment to advancing science education and supporting teachers in designing meaningful, problem-solving oriented learning experiences.
