Dr Indrawati, Director of SEAQIS, had the opportunity to attend the METAEDU Smart Education Expo. This parallel expo was being held in conjunction with the 2023 Smart City Summit & Expo from 28 to 29 March in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, Taiwan. This event was facilitated by the Institute for Information Industry and aims to provide an overall summary of the STEAM industry developments in Southeast Asia, seek potential collaboration by working with other SEAMEO Centers along with the METAEDU team and the Taiwanese EdTech Industry, as well as discuss the collaboration timeline and scope that can be achieved in SEAMEO QITEP in Science.
On 28 March 2023, the director was visiting various Edtech Company booths that offered various technology products related to education, starting from mechanical teaching media to digital-based learning media (AR, VR, sound processing, robotics, smart screens, etc.). The first day’s activities were ended with a visit to the K and H manufacturing company, which is a manufacture of vocational learning practice tools.
On the second day, the director visited the Administration for Digital Industries, Ministry of Digital Affairs, Taiwan. During this visit, Dr Indrawati explained the profile of SEAQIS, best practice STEM programmes that have been implemented, and proposed collaboration programmes with the Institute for Information Industry.
The highlight of this event was Cooperation Launching Ceremony on the STEAM programme implementation between SEAMEO Centers, the Institute for Information Industry, and universities. On the ceremony, the Deputy Director-General, Jiunn-Shiow Lin said, “I believe, this collaboration will provide a valuable opportunity to improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia region by leveraging digital technologies and STEAM learning”.
