SEAQIS strengthened its regional and international engagement through its active participation in the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) 2026, held in Guizhou, China, from 29 to 31 July 2026.
Through the event, SEAQIS contributed to strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN in science, technology, education, and talent development. SEAQIS took part in the ChinaASEAN Science and Technology Education Local Resources Co-construction and Sharing Cooperation Initiative, which promotes the co-construction and sharing of educational resources between China and ASEAN.
As part of this engagement, SEAQIS strengthened its collaboration with Guizhou Normal University through the launch of the “China-ASEAN Science and Technology Education Local Resources Co-construction and Sharing Cooperation Initiative”, jointly launched by Rizwan Darmawan, Head of Partnership and Publication Division of SEAQIS, and Liu Jin, Vice President of Guizhou Normal University. Under the initiative, SEAQIS and Guizhou Normal University jointly supported the China-ASEAN STEM Teacher Training, while the unveiling of the practical training base further highlighted a shared pathway for China and ASEAN to co-develop, share, and apply educational resources, as well as exchange educational achievements and experiences across the region.
SEAQIS also contributed to the 2026 China-ASEAN Conference on International Talent Development and Smart Education Cooperation in the Digital Era, a high-level international forum bringing together senior representatives from governments, international organisations, universities, and education institutions across China, ASEAN, and beyond.
The distinguished line-up of speakers included senior officials from the Ministry of Education of China, representatives from UNESCO and UNDP, the SEAMEO Secretariat, as well as senior leaders from leading universities and institutions, including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Southeast University, Communication University of China, Shanghai University, Zhengzhou University, Hainan Normal University, and other prominent higher education institutions.
Within this distinguished international forum, SEAQIS was represented by Rizwan Darmawan as one of the speakers in the “Outcome Sharing on High-level International Talent Development” session. In the session, he shared its experience in developing international partnerships with institutions in China to support talent cultivation, professional development, and innovation in
science education. He also highlighted the importance of developing partnerships that recognise the diverse educational contexts of Southeast Asia and promote meaningful collaboration rather than one-way knowledge transfer.
“We see tremendous opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Southeast Asian
countries and China. By combining China’s expertise in educational innovation with
Southeast Asia’s diverse educational contexts, we can co-create solutions that benefit the
entire region rather than simply transferring knowledge from one side to another.”
SEAQIS’ participation in CAECW 2026 strengthened its connections with key institutions and opened further opportunities for cooperation in science education, teacher professional development, educational resource sharing, digital education, and international talent development.
More broadly, SEAQIS’ active engagement in high-level regional and international platforms
reflects its commitment to connecting international expertise and innovation with the diverse educational needs of Southeast Asia. These emerging opportunities further strengthen SEAQIS’ role in fostering meaningful partnerships and collaborative initiatives that can contribute to the continued development and advancement of science education across the region.
