In an effort to realize its vision and mission, SEAMEO QITEP in Science held a workshop that aims to improve the quality of science teaching in Southeast Asia through the inquiry method, targeting educators and education personnel on 21st to 26th October 2013, in Marbella Suites Hotel, Bandung, Indonesia. The workshop was organized by SEAMEO QITEP in Science and International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC), an organization under the auspices of UNESCO, in collaboration with La main à la pate (LAMAP), the educational foundation assisted by French Ministry of Education, and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE). The purpose of the activity is to strengthen the philosophy, principles and planning in implementation of inquiry-based science education for teachers and education personnels, as well as introducing a system of dissemination of inquiry-based science education that has been done by LAMAP.
Participants of the workshops were teachers and educational personnels from Indonesia, Southeast Asian countries and countries in the south of equator which are being assisted by ISTIC who had passed the selection by SEAMEO QITEP in Science and ISTIC. The participants in this event were from 10 countries (Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Iran, Malaysia, Srilanka, Thailand, Timor Leste, Tonga and Vietnam). The resource persons for the workshop were the instructors from LAMAP foundation and from The Science and Technology Education Leveraging Relevance (STELR), an educational center of ATSE.
The quality of education will be achieved relatively quick with significant results, through cooperation of all relevant parties with the same vision and mission, in local, national, regional and even international. Therefore, the international cooperation that has existed between SEAMEO QITEP in Science, ISTIC, LAMAP and ATSE is expected to generate new breakthroughs in achieving maximum results in improving the quality of global education through inquiry models.
