SEAQIS has successfully convened the Training Course on Science Classroom Supervision (SCS) intended for school principals and supervisors. The training was conducted from 10 – 19 July 2018 at the Atlantic City Hotel Bandung. It was participated by 29 participants, where 20 participants were from Indonesia and the other were fromSEAMEO member countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Timor Leste.
The training was initiated with an introduction from Dr Elly Herliani presenting about “QualityAssurance through School Self-Evaluation”. The next day were started with a motivational talk from Mr Fautry Hasfiandy of Indonesian Management Institution, followed by Dr Indarjani, the Deputy Director for Programme presenting “Science Education in 21st Century. At the end of the second day, each participant presented their country reports followed by best practice presentation from Mr Agus Wiyoto, the participant of previous SCS training course.
The first session of the third day was presentation about “Leadership for 21st Century” delivered by Prof. Aan Komariah, where she explained about the concept of leadership for 21st century in school supervision. The next session was brought by Prof Djam’an Satori who discussed about “School Supervision Strategy”, and continued by Dr Elly Herliani presenting about “Continuous Professional Development”.
Mrs Tati Setiawati assisted by Mr Lukman Nulhakim initiated the fourth day by facilitating the STEM Activity. In this session, the participants were assigned to make a model of bungee jumping using simple materials to demonstrate the concept of science, mathematics and engineering. In the afternoon session, Dr Darwis presented coaching materials about how to be a good supervisor. The fifth day was started by Dr Asep Sudarsyah, discussing about school-based management. Then, the participants enjoyed their free time to explore Bandung City.
The next day activity was designing supervision programme and instrument and then reporting. At the eighth day of the training, the participants joined a field trip to Darul Hikam International School located in Lembang, Bandung to implement supervision instruments they made. Darul Hikam International School was chosen as the destination for the school visit because they implemented Cambridge and Indonesian National curriculum. The participants were divided into four groups and each group supervised a class where the teacher and students conducted STEM-based learning activity.
The next agenda was a cultural visit, to Saung Angklung Udjo. There, the participants were fascinated by traditional performance including various angklung performances, dancing, and singing In the end of the day, all the participants were invited to a farewell dinner held in the Atlantic City hotel.
The training was concluded with a culture night where all participants displayed their traditional costumes, and also performing their traditional dances and songs. Through this training, hopefully the participants did not only acquire knowledge that would be useful in Supervising and managing their schools, but also a valuable experience to share with their colleagues in their place of origin.
