The Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP) is an instrument used as a basis for the SEAMEO QITEP in Science to bear its mandates. It is also to facilitate the Centre to adjust its direction in response to a changing environment. The first FYDP of the Centre has almost reached its final year. Therefore, the Centre needs to develop the second FYDP as the preparation to face the challenges in science education in the coming five years.
To facilitate the establishment of the second FYDP, SEAMEO QITEP in Science collaborated with SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics and SEAMEO QITEP in Language, conducted a workshop on 14 – 17 June 2013, in Marbella Suites Hotel Bandung. In the workshop, Dr. Jesus C. Fernandez from SEAMEO BIOTROP and Siti Muslimatun, Ph.D. from SEAMEO RECFON invited as the resource persons to guide and supervise the establishment of the documents.
The workshop produced several important points among others are the vision of the Centre, which is to be the centre of excellence in professional development of teachers and education personnel in science towards sustainable development in Southeast Asia, and the mission of the Centre, that is to provide relevant and quality programmes in professional development for science teachers and education personnel through capacity building, research and development, resource sharing, and collaboration.
