From 21 – 30 October 2014, SEAQIS conducted the Science Classroom Supervision training course. It was officially opened by the Deputy Director of SEAQIS, Dr Indarjani and attended by 40 participants comprising school principals, supervisors, and inspectors from all over Indonesia and other SEAMEO member countries, such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Timor Leste, Thailand and Vietnam. The subjects covered by the training were Science Development in 21st Century; Monitoring and Evaluation Framework towards Continues Quality Improvement in Education; 21st Century School Principal Competencies; Effective School Leadership in 21st Century; Lesson Study in the Classroom Setting; Developing School Principal in China: Challenges, Opportunities and Strategic Directions; Planning of Classroom Supervision Program; Implementation of Program and Instrument of Supervision; and Nature of Science and Science Practice. Participants also reported the best practices in their respective countries and made an action plan to be followed up after they completed the training.
During the training, the participants visited SMPN 4 Sumedang to see the practice of lesson study in the classroom. They visited SMP Taruna Bakti Bandung to practice supervision using the supervision instrument and also visited Saung Angklung Udjo to watch the angklung performance. Participants were actively involved in every activity and at the end of the training, performed traditional songs and dances of their respective countries and regions. It is expected that through this training participants will be far more confident and creative in their respective science classroom and that the teaching methods are more innovative and effective.
