SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) staff, Mr Kandi and Ms Eka Danti Agustiani, accompanied by Dr M.Q. Wisnu Aji, Head of General Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia visited Vientiane, Lao PDR from 25 – 28 November 2014. The aims of the visit were to conduct the Monitoring Evaluation program for the alumni of SEAQIS’ courses,submit Training Needs Assessment questionnaires to Lao’s science teachers and collect Lao’s newest science curriculum documents.
Facilitated by Indonesian Embassy for Lao PDR, SEAQIS’ team met Mr Souksavanh Phonetheva, Deputy Director of Research Institute for Educational Science (RIES) of Ministry of Education and Youth Lao PDR, and his staff. A meeting concerning the most up-to-date curriculum data was conducted, as the Centre is conducting research on curriculum in Southeast Asian countries. In the forum, Mr Souksavanh also followed up SEAQIS’ offer to cooperate in conducting an in-country training program in Lao PDR.
For Monitoring and Evaluation and Training Need Assessment program, the team had another meeting with alumni of regular courses in Vientiane Secondary School. It was attended by six teachers, who were alumni from courses in 2012 and 2014, from five different schools in Lao PDR. The team also visited a science class conducted by Mr Vongphet Luangxay, alumnus from Vientiane Secondary School, as a part of Monitoring Evaluation Program. There were seven teachers and principals from Vientiane Secondary School who have filled Training Needs Assessment questionnaires as well. All of Monitoring Evaluation and Training Need of Assessment results are very valuable as they assist with SEAQIS’ program improvement.
At the end of visit schedule, the team was accepted by Mr Bambang Eko Sukartono, Counselor of Indonesian Embassy for Lao PDR, on behalf of the Ambassador, who was in duty to Luang Phrabang, Lao PDR. Many aspects of cooperation built between Indonesia and Lao PDR, including to increase SEAQIS’s participation in Lao PDR were discussed during the visit.
