Starting 2023 with STEM Learning

 

SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) along with SMP Muhammadiyah 36 Jakarta had conducted an online training on STEM learning for Science teachers community in SMP Muhammadiyah. About 31 participants from the Muhammadiyah Science Teachers Community who are based in DKI Jakarta, Bogor, Lampung, and Kalimantan attended the online training from 2 to 10 January 2023 through Zoom Meeting.

On 2 January 2023, the training was officially opened by Mr Didik Suhardi, the Vice Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board of Primary and Secondary Education. In his remarks, he expressed his support for teachers under the aegis of Muhammadiyah to develop and improve their self-competences related to various learning innovations.

Dr Indrawati as the Director of SEAQIS also gave a speech at the opening ceremony where she appreciated SMP Muhammadiyah 36 Jakarta for  ting this training and phrased her gratitude for the trust given to SEAQIS. Moreover, she hoped that the participants could take part in the training well  afterwards implement it in their respective classroom.

Similarly, Ms Mona Farida, Head of SMP Muhammadiyah 36 Jakarta as the coordinator of the organizer, expressed her appreciation to the Muhammadiyah Central Board in her speech for supporting the training to take place and also SEAQIS who had facilitated the training.

In this training, SEAQIS had sent three persons as the facilitators: Ms Lintang Ratri Prastika, Mr Lukman Nulhakim, and Mr Heri Setiadi. According to the organiser, this training  to 32 hours of coaching which consists of some theoretical and practical materials, such as issues and trends around the science learning, STEM learning characteristics, STEM learning designs, STEM learning materials as well as STEM-based test questions drafting.

Participants attended material explanations through online Zoom Meeting, then continued with self-directed activities to practice the engineering design activity process as a characteristic of STEM learning. In addition, participants also learned how to draft STEM learning design and scenario as well as STEM learning materials, such as: lesson implementation plans (RPP), student worksheets, and STEM test questions cards.

The training was closed on 10 January 2023 by Mr Humaidi as the representative of the Principal of SMP Muhammadiyah 36 Jakarta. Through his speech, he expressed his gratitude to the SEAQIS team and the participants for attending the training properly. What has been obtained in the training will be more beneficial if it is immediately implemented in their respective classroom.
