TK Islam Miftahul Fath is one of SEAQIS’ partner schools that has been assisted for about two years in STEM field. In this programme, the teachers learn about the basic information of STEM, how to plan the learning methods and implement them to the kindergarten students, as well as to disseminate the learning outcomes to other teachers.
In the beginning of 2023, SEAQIS and TK Islam Miftahul Fath conducted an activity entitled “Dissemination of STEM Learning Implementation: Good Practices for STEM Learning Implementation at TK Islam Miftahul Fath” on 4 January 2023. The dissemination was carried out in order to show how the implementation of STEM at that kindergarten to the nearby schools in Bojongsoang District, Bandung Regency, which consisted of 31 teachers.
This event was facilitated by Dr Indrawati as SEAQIS Director and TK Islam Miftahul Fath team. Ms Indriati, the Kindergarten Superintendent in Bojongsoang District, also attended this event. On the opening ceremony, she expressed her hope that this event could develop the teachers’ knowledge in applying new teaching methods in their respective schools.
The first session was delivered by Dr Indrawati regarding STEM learning in kindergarten. In general, STEM methods in kindergarten emphasise active learning, stimulate the students to solve problems, focus on solutions, develop logical and systematic ways of thinking, and sharpen the critical thinking skill. Those methods play a prominent role in preparing students to build competitive character globally and have a future career in technical and creative fields.
On the next session, TK Islam Miftahul Fath team consisting of Ms Zonaina Yuhadisi as the principal with five teachers delivered a presentation on best practices of STEM implementation in their school. Moreover, she conveyed that the purpose of dissemination was to create an implementation programme and identify the needs for STEM evaluation and implementation, especially for training the students to be literate with STEM and other kinds of literacy as well as be the problem solvers.
Through this event, Dr Indrawati also hopes that all participants can be inspired to develop learning methods based on the needs. Furthermore, by implementing STEM at schools, students will be able to think critically and creatively as well as to collaborate and communicate effectively with people.
