The Competency Improvement Programme for Teachers, Principals, and School Supervisors in STEM Learning in The Working Area of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) WK Rokan continued in 2023. After conducting a Focus Group Discussion and In Service Training 1, the next step of this programme is On the Job Learning (OJL). OJL is divided into 2 phases, the first phase, OJL 1, involves the preparation of teaching materials that will be used in implementing STEM learning, while the second phase, OJL 2, involves the implementation of STEM learning in class.
OJL 1 was conducted online from August to December 2022. The participating teachers are guided and supervised by school principals and supervisors to prepare STEM teaching materials consisting of teaching plans (RPP) and student performance sheets (LKPD). Participants were also asked to develop other STEM topics that could be implemented in class other than the pre-determined ones at IN 1 training. Therefore, each school had a minimum of two topics on STEM learning. The teaching materials for STEM learning were drafted at each school where a team of SEAQIS facilitators acted as a guide in the drafting process. In addition, the participants and facilitators conducted discussions through WhatsApp group and Zoom Meeting.
After finishing the development of teaching materials, the participants proceeded to OJL 2 and implemented in-class learning. The SEAQIS team were on-site, observing STEM learning in one school of each level in every city/regency within the work area of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan from 24 January to 2 February 2023. The first cities to be observed were Pekanbaru and Dumai, followed by Siak and Kampar Regencies, and ended with an observation at Rokan Hilir, Rokan Hulu, and Bengkalis. Generally, the teachers were able to implement good STEM learning and create many interesting products that have the potential of becoming the region’s specialty, such as corn syrup from Pekanbaru; guava gummies and batik eco print from Siak Regency; pineapple peel eco enzyme from Dumai; aloe vera gummies and pretty cups made of recycled glass bottles from Rokan Hilir Regency, and rebon floss from Bengkalis Regency. After experiencing and implementing STEM learning, participants will then disseminate it to impact schools at the In Service 2 programme in late February 2023.
