Science Learning in Collaboration with SD Negeri 265 Bandung Kulon

 

On 3 March 2023, 158 students and nine teachers from SD Negeri 265 Bandung Kulon participated in a science learning programme. The programme was aimed in providing students with hands-on experience in various scientific concepts, including energy conversion, force, changing states of matter and water cycle, light characteristics, as well as mixture and solutions. The students, consisting of the 4th and 5th graders, were divided into groups and guided by SEAQIS facilitators in conducting the science practicum. The facilitators provided the students with the necessary materials and equipment to conduct the experiments. 

One of the experiments was focused on energy conversion which students learnt the different forms of energy and how it can be converted. Another experiment was focused on force which students learnt about the different types of forces and their effects on objects. The students also learnt about the changing states of matter which they conducted experiments on the different states of matter and the changes that occur when matters changes from one state into another state. Furthermore, they learnt the properties of light and how it behaves in order to gain knowledge about light characteristics. Mixture and solutions were also learnt through an experiment on how different substances mix and to separate them. The students were enthusiastic about the hands-on activities and eager to learn more about science. 

The programme was regarded as a success by the students and teachers. The hands-on experience provided by the programme allowed the students to have a better understanding of the scientific concepts that they have learnt in the classroom. The teachers were also grateful for the opportunity to learn new teaching techniques and strategies that can be implemented in their classrooms. SEAQIS hopes to continue to provide similar programmes in the future, as they believe that hands-on learning experiences are crucial in developing students’ interest and understanding of science.
