SEAQIS Empowers Early Childhood Educators through Contextual Science Learning Training

SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) conducted the In-service Training 1 on Science Learning for Early Childhood Educators from 3 to 6 July 2025 in Bandung, bringing together 36 teachers and school principals from early childhood institutions in Bandung City and Bandung Regency. Held at Novotel Bandung, the programme marked a significant step in strengthening early childhood science education through contextual and play-based approaches.

The training, part of SEAQIS’ 2025 flagship initiative on STEM education, aimed to enhance teachers’ pedagogical and professional competencies in facilitating scientific exploration among young learners. Over four days, participants engaged in lectures, hands-on activities, discussions, and collaborative lesson planning.

“This programme is a strategic step to cultivate young minds into future critical thinkers. By equipping teachers with practical and developmentally appropriate science pedagogy, we ensure that science becomes an integral and enjoyable part of early education,” said Reza Setiawan, M.T., SEAQIS Director.

Key topics covered included the nature of science, science process skills, effective questioning techniques, and strategies for integrating science into classroom routines through play-and-learn methods. Participants also collaborated to design short-term, realistic, and engaging lesson plans aligned with the PAUD curriculum’s goals and principles.

The programme received highly positive responses. Educators considered the materials relevant and practical, closely aligned with classroom needs, and appreciated the clear delivery. Many expressed greater confidence in applying their new knowledge, particularly in fostering scientific thinking and curiosity among children.

Through this initiative, SEAQIS continues to play a strategic role in supporting national education priorities and cultivating a generation of young scientists who are curious, creative, and lifelong learners.
