SEAQIS joined the training on creating digital publications to address libraries’ diverse, held by SEAQIL and the Professional Development Centre for Educators in North Sumatra Province from 15 to 18 September 2024.
This four-day training was conducted at the Professional Development Center for Educators in North Sumatra Province based on the different and unstandardised conditions of libraries among SEAMEO Centres Indonesia (SCI). 19 participants from six SCI and the representatives from Professional Development Centre for Educators in North Sumatra eagerly attended this training.
Dr Brian Arieska Pranata (Director of SEAQIL) opened the training, followed by sessions led by Mr Wildan Hadi Putra from the Riau Provincial Library and Archives Office and Ms Dwi Endah Purwanti from the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Office. They shared about managing digital libraries in regional libraries and the digital tools developed in the Riau and North Sumatra Provinces. The session continued with a presentation from Mr Bhredipta Cresti Socarana from the Creative Commons Indonesia about Copyright and Licensing for Digital Content in Libraries.
The next session on Using Information and Communication Technology in Libraries was led by librarians Mr Chaidir Amir and Ms Syafnelly from Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. They presented the digital libraries available at the ministry and gave a step-by-step guide on how to download and use SLiMS (Senayan Library Management System), which can be used by organisations or institutional libraries. They also explained how to store journals, modules, and digital books in the KEMENDIKBUDRISTEK Institutional Repository. Additionally, they shared strategies for promoting digital libraries to raise public awareness and reach more users, supporting digital literacy in today’s world.
