The International Research Competition for Young Scientists (IRCYS) from 10 to 13 October 2024 in Bali brought together young researchers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Hosted by the Bandung Creative Society, a partner of SEAQIS, the event provided a global platform for 45 research teams from middle schools, high schools, and colleges to showcase their scientific projects and engage in cultural exchanges.
Ms Lintang Ratri Prastika from SEAQIS opened the event by highlighting the role of science in shaping the future and encouraging participants to embrace curiosity and creativity in their research. “Science is not just about understanding the world; it’s about shaping its future. Your research represents the power of inquiry, the courage to ask questions, and the persistence to find answers,” she stated, setting the tone for the competition.
Throughout the competition, participants presented their projects in oral presentations, followed by Q&A sessions. Dr Indrawati as an expert from SEAQIS served as a judge, providing valuable feedback and selecting the most innovative projects for recognition. Her guidance was vital in recognizing the most innovative and impactful projects.
In addition to her role in the opening ceremony, Ms Lintang led a workshop for teachers on integrating generative AI into education, demonstrating how AI can create more engaging, personalized, and effective learning experiences. She shared practical strategies for applying AI in the classroom, emphasising its transformative potential in education.
SEAQIS’s active involvement in both project evaluation and professional development workshops underscores its commitment to advancing science education in Southeast Asia. IRCYS 2024 highlighted the brilliance of young scientists and SEAQIS’s role in fostering the next generation of researchers equipped to tackle future challenges.
