STEM Learning for West Sumba Regency

 

SEAQIS with the Education and Culture Office of West Sumba Regency successfully conducted a three-day training programme focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning for junior high school science teachers. Conducted from 15 to 17 October 2024 at Rumah Belajar Sumba, this training aimed to enhance teachers’ skills and equip them with modern pedagogical approaches in line with 21st-century education. 

The opening ceremony featured remarks from Mr Reza Setiawan (SEAQIS Deputy Director for Programme) who introduced SEAQIS to the participants and expressed gratitude to the Education and Culture Office of West Sumba Regency for making this collaboration possible. He emphasised the importance of the teachers gaining in-depth knowledge of STEM learning and encouraged them to apply their new skills in the classroom and within their communities. 

Following Mr Reza’s speech, Mr Rikhardus Holo Kondo (Head of the Education and Culture Office of West Sumba Regency) officially opened the event. In his address, he highlighted the significance of improving teacher competencies to keep pace with global developments. He conveyed his hope that teachers would implement what they learned during the training in their respective schools. 

Ms Lintang Ratri Prastika and Mr Heri Setiadi as SEAQIS facilitators guided participants through various sessions. The training covered essential topics such as the urgency of 21st-century skills for students, characteristics of STEM learning, and the development of STEM-based student worksheets and assessments. The interactive sessions featured hands-on activities, group discussions, and presentations. This collaboration marks an important step in advancing the quality of education in West Sumba, and SEAQIS remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster educational excellence across Indonesia.
