A total of 74 schools, ranging from primary to senior secondary levels in Riau Province, are preparing to take part in the STEM Competition organised by SEAQIS and PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR). The final competition will be held from 23 to 24 December 2024 at The Zuri Hotel Pekanbaru. It aims to assess the effectiveness of STEM learning implemented by teachers in partner schools while evaluating students’ ability to apply STEM concepts through practical science projects.
Mr Pandjie Galih Anoraga, CSR Manager at PHR WK Rokan, stated that the competition is expected to have a positive impact on the development of sustainable STEM education. “The STEM Competition is hoped to positively impact the ongoing development of STEM learning in schools. This competition is also expected to inspire both teachers and students to continuously innovate in science and technology-based learning, especially in their local communities.”
The competition will involve 29 primary schools, 27 junior secondary schools, and 18 senior secondary schools spread across seven districts/cities in Riau that have previously participated in STEM PHR Programme Batches 1, 2, and 3. Before the final round, participants will undergo a series of selection phases starting on 15 November 2024. The finalists will compete in two main categories: School Competition and Student Competition (STEM Challenge).
This competition is designed to encourage the effective implementation of STEM education in schools, while also working to improve the 21st-century skills of both teachers and students in this field. In partnership with SEAQIS, PHR has consistently organised programmes that provide important opportunities for teachers and students to showcase their innovations in science and technology-based education and to inspire the continued development of sustainable STEM learning in the future.
