SEAMEO INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME P.1

SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) in collaboration with Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, Former Director SEAMEO Secretariat (SEAMES) conduct the internship programme for SEAQIS Staff at SEAMES Office, Bangkok, Thailand.

This programme aims to give experience to SEAQIS staff about the working environment, system management, programme, and project at SEAMES so that the staff can implement it at SEAQIS office.

All SEAQIS staff could apply to join the programme. To join this internship programme, the staff who interested must through administrative selection (curriculum vitae and motivation letter) and interview. The selection process reviewed by the Board of Director of SEAQIS.

The selection process was conducted from November – December 2018, the announcement of the selected participant in early January 2019 and the Internship programme started from 3 February – 29 March 2019.

Only 2 staff can join this programme, the selected staff will get some scholarship from SEAQIS and SEAMES for living cost while staying in Bangkok. I, Lintang Ratri Prastika, Partnership Officer, and my colleague, Ms Tika Karlina, Personnel Officer, was selected as participants and get the opportunity in this SEAMEO Internship Programme.

PART 1: PREPARATION

Evidently, that are a lot of things to prepared before we started the programme especially for administration and permit document for staying in Bangkok. Mr Rizwan Darmawan our Head of Secretariat Division help us to coordinate with Mrs Natcha Kampiranond, SEAMES Administration Manager, to send the letter of acceptance of the internship programme and cover letter for visa application. As government employees, we also must have overseas travel permit from Foreign Cooperation Bureau (FCB), MOEC Indonesia. So, after Ms Natcha sent the letter needed to our Secretariat Ms Amallia Yuliana, Partnership Officer, help to prepare the overseas official travel permit to FCB and Mr Agus Nugraha, General Affairs Officer, help to apply for the Visa to The Thailand Embassy because we will live at Bangkok for 2 Months.

One of the crucial requirement to apply for the Thailand Visa is a police record letter. The Police Record Letter must be issued by the West Java Regional Police. So, Me and Ms Tika must prepare that document in the area where we live (Cimahi City and Bandung City) then to the West Java Regional Police Office. After the letter was ready, Mr Agus were going back to the Thailand Embassy Office in Jakarta and apply for the Visa.

The visa will be completed by the end of January and indeed it is quite close to the time of our departure to Bangkok. While waiting for Visa, we prepared the house where we would live in Bangkok later. Actually, Ms. Natcha has provided two choices of residence that are close to the location of the SEAMES Office, but by considering the scholarships we obtained, we decided to find a place to live by ourselves through an online application.

After all administrative, permit, transportation and accommodation matters are completed. We left for Bangkok on 3 February 2019 and began the internship at SEAMES Office on 4 February – 29 March 2019.
