In-House Training on Computer Science Education: Integrating Computational Thinking into Science Learning

To support the implementation of SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-2030, SEAQIS puts its focus on the digital transformation. This is the answer to the rapid development of the current trends in science education. It also requires SEAQIS to strengthen its capacity and capability. Therefore, SEAQIS conducted In-House Training (IHT) on Computer Science Education focusing on Integrating Computational Thinking into Science Learning for its staff and stakeholders.

The IHT was conducted from 28 to 30 January 2020 at SEAQIS. This IHT was aimed to understand concepts of computational thinking and its integration in learning, as well as understanding the computational thinking learning assessment. This IHT is expected to improve staff competence in facilitating teachers, particularly in computational thinking. This IHT was facilitated by Dr Ingriani Liem, the Chief of Bebras Indonesia. Besides, Bebras of Maranatha University and Parahyangan University teams were also facilitated the event.

The first day, the facilitator, Dr Inggriani Liem, introduced computer science and its position in computational thinking. She then exposed what computational thinking is and also provided an example of computational thinking test items. She also introduced about Bebras, a non-profit international organization that promotes informatics and computational thinking. The second day, the programme was facilitated by Bebras team of Maranatha University. They provided strategies to integrate computational thinking into science learning. On the last day, the participants were discussed learning assessment using Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The participants were also required to make HOTS test items.
