The workshop on STEM Implementation in SMK SMAK Makassar Learning was conducted from 5 to 7 July 2022 at Novotel Makassar Grand Shayla Hotel, based on the invitation letter number 779/BPSDMI/SMAKMA/PP/06/2022 regarding the request for resource persons on STEM topic sent by SMK SMAK Makassar on 14 June 2022. Based on the invitation, SEAQIS assigned Mr Septian Karyana and Mr Dian Purnama to be the resource persons for the event. This workshop aims to improve the pedagogical competence of SMK SMAK Makassar teachers regarding the implementation of STEM approach in learning to develop students’ 21st-century skills.
On the first day, participants received the materials on STEM Learning and 21st-century skills, which were “What is STEM learning?” and “Why should we implement it in learning?”, as well as its relation to 21st-century skills. Furthermore, they also received the material on Characteristics of Learning STEM. In this session, they were encouraged to apply the Engineering Design Process (EDP) concept in solving a problem, were given problems related to bridges, as well as designed and created a bridge prototype. In the last session on the first day, they received the material on how to analysed the dimensions of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in a project-based learning.
On the second day, the workshop was continued with a discussion about the design of the project that they would teach in learning as well as how to analysed the dimensions of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in order to see the integration of the four dimensions. On the next session, there were some explanation and discussion about STEM learning models that could be applied in science learning and how to conduct STEM learning assessments. At the end of the workshop, the participants worked in groups to design learning scenarios according to the topics they had analysed and referred to the learning models they had obtained. This workshop was officially closed by the Principal of SMK SMAK Makassar, Mr Bakhtiar Rahmani.
