From 18 to 20 December 2022, Ms Lintang Ratri Prastika from SEAQIS had the opportunity to participate in the STEM-PBL Workshop for Facilitator organised by SEAMEO STEM-ED, STEM-ED Indonesian Association, and STEM Centre FMIPA UNJ which was attended by 30 participants. This workshop is a part of activities of Southeast Asian STEM Education Fair and Expo programme which will be held on 10 March 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, by SEAMEO STEM-ED. By following this event, SEAQIS also attempted to expand its network and strengthen one of its flagship programmes, namely STEM integration in Science learning.

On the first two days, the workshop was held using blended mode in the meeting room of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Jakarta State University, and through Zoom meeting. The speakers from SEAMEO STEM-ED namely Dr Mark Windale, Dr John Smith, and Dr Ed Reeve explained the material through the Zoom which related to the definition of STEM education, Scientific Investigation, Engineering Design and Design Thinking, as well as the four stages of Problem/Project Based Learning (PBL). Moreover, the participants also carried out hands-on activities to make a Solar Oven with the STEM-PBL stages. On the third day, the workshop was carried out on-site with Mr Arif Hidayat, Ph.D. as a speaker from Indonesian University of Education which explained about the theory and technique in facilitating teachers at schools.

This workshop was intended to provide the academic and technical supplies for selected participants in assisting several schools that will implement STEM-PBL in their schools. With the guidance of these facilitators, it is hoped that teachers in schools can implement STEM-PBL well so that students’ skills and ways of thinking will be trained in solving problems. Furthermore, students can also produce useful products which will be displayed at the expo in March, 2023.
