International Seminar on Enhancing Literacy-Numeracy through Digital and STEAM Education in Southeast Asia was held in a building of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 13 July 2023, in order to celebrate the 14th Anniversary of SEAMEO QITEP in Language, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, and SEAMEO QITEP in Science. The event was broadcasted live through both SEAMEO QITEP’s YouTube channels and the Zoom Cloud Meetings. 225 teachers from various regions in Indonesia attended onsite activities, while about 972 participants took part in online. The seminar aimed to give teachers an understanding of the importance of literacy and numeracy skills for students and clarify the role of digital technology in supporting these skills in STEAM learning.
At the seminar, the representative of SEAMEO QITEP ’s Director and the Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology expressed their welcome and future expectations for the development of the SEAMEO organization. Meanwhile, Educators and education personnel from Southeast Asia shared their knowledge and experiences on these topics with the participants. The awarding ceremony was held during the seminar as well.
The speakers of the seminar were Dr Rachmadi Widdiharto (Directorate Teacher and Education Personnel), Mr Morita Mamoru (The Japan Foundation), Assoc. Prof. Allan L. White (University of Western Sydney) and Mr Hasbi Asyadiq (Assemblr).
The International Seminar on Enhancing Literacy-Numeracy through Digital and STEAM Education in Southeast Asia was a great success. The minister, teachers and guests who participated in the activity congratulated on the success of the seminar and took a group photo together.
