SEAQIS with the Indonesia Scientific Society (ISS) successfully held the International Science Technology and Engineering Competition (ISTEC) 2024 from 2 to 5 May 2024 at the Infinity8 Hotel in Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia. Bali was chosen intentionally in the hope that the participants could also experience cultural exchange there while advancing their academic skills through this competition. Striving to support research and education, 66 finalist teams competed their best research papers and originated from around the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as the United States.
The participants showcased their research findings to a panel of judges, including Dr Indrawati, a SEAQIS expert. They also engaged in insightful discussions regarding the methodology and conclusion of their research. Besides the competition, there was also a workshop on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning, specially tailored for the teachers who accompanied the student teams. This workshop aimed to enrich teachers’ understanding and advance their pedagogical skills through hands-on activities led by Ms Lintang Ratri Prastika from SEAQIS. They were also equipped with practical tools to engage students effectively in the classroom. During the workshop, participants could share their insights and experiences about STEM education in their schools and countries, fostering a rich exchange of ideas.
This event was a great platform for young scientists and innovators to compete and evaluate their ideas. Initiatives like ISTEC are vital for fostering global collaboration and nurturing future innovators, as highlighted by the success of this year’s competition in advancing science, technology, and education. It is hoped that such efforts will continue to inspire and equip young minds to tackle the challenges of the future.
