SEAQIS recently conducted Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as a part of Training on STEM Learning Integration into Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) at SMP Al Furqan MQ in Jombang, East Java Province, from 22 to 24 August 2024.
The opening ceremony was attended by the owner of Al Furqan Foundation, KH. Abdul Hadi Yusuf; the foundation director, KH. Abdul Gofar Yusuf; and the school principal, Mr M. Abdul Ghofur. Mr Zuhe Safitra (Acting Director of SEAQIS) and Mr Reza Setiawan (Deputy Director for Programme) also attended the opening ceremony. KH. Abdul Gofar Yusuf extended his gratitude to SEAQIS team for the opportunity to hold the training in their school because they intended to integrate the STEM approach into their curriculum.
The training was facilitated by Dr Poppy Kamalia Devi and Mr Heri Setiadi, focusing on introducing and understanding STEM and how to integrate it into P5 context. In one of the training sessions, the participants were given a hands-on activity to be utilised in STEM approach by constructing earthquake-resistant straw towers. Experiencing the hands-on activity would allow the teachers to explore innovative ways to teach and engage the students in classroom learning.
After the successful training session, the participants expressed their gratitude to SEAQIS for the valuable experience and enriching training programme. As the programme continues to the next part, which is On-the-Job Learning session, the teachers are expected to be able to integrate STEM approach into their teaching activities and empower the students in STEM subjects.
