SEAQIS participated in the Belt and Road Youth Science and Cultural Exchange Event held in Nanning, Guangxi, China, from 19 to 25 September 2024. The delegation, led by SEAQIS representatives Ms Fathika Anjani Firman, Mr Octo Litadiputra Reinaldy, and Ms Widi Wisnu Gumilar, included the winners of the Indonesia Youth Science Competition (IYSC) 2024 from SMP Darul Ulum Jombang, SMP Darul Hikam Bandung, and SMP Insan Cendekia Madani Tangerang.
The event commenced at the Guangxi Science and Technology Museum, where participants engaged in stimulating science lessons and workshops. Over the week, the group visited several significant sites, including the Nanning Qingxiushan Popular Science Education Base, the Anthropology Museum of Guangxi, and local secondary schools, immersing themselves in scientific inquiry and cultural exchange.
One of the key highlights was the underwater robotics course at Nanning No. 3 High School, where students built and tested their robots. Another enriching experience took place at the Guangxi Beihai Coastal National Wetland Science Education Base, where the participants explored mangrove biodiversity, allowing them to connect classroom knowledge to real-world ecosystems.
Throughout the event, participants gained valuable insights into innovative project-based learning approaches in science education. They were exposed to international perspectives on advanced research, fostering a broader understanding of scientific practices. The SEAQIS team also participated in collaborative discussions and workshops, gathering ideas to enhance STEM education across Southeast Asia.
Looking ahead, SEAQIS is excited to use the knowledge and connections gained from this experience to strengthen its international partnerships. SEAQIS aims to improve science education in Indonesia by sharing ideas learned during the exchange of their programmes. Building these international collaborations will also encourage cultural exchange, allowing students and teachers to share different perspectives and experiences. Ultimately, SEAQIS is dedicated to improving STEM education in Southeast Asia and helping the next generation of scientists prepare for global challenges and make positive contributions to society.
