SEAQIS Launched On-the-Job Learning 1 to Strengthen Teacher Competencies in STEM Education at PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) WK Rokan Area

On 14 October 2024, SEAQIS officially launched the On-the-Job Learning 1 (OJL 1) programme for teachers in the PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) WK Rokan area. This programme is built on previous teacher training efforts in STEM-based learning through local context, as part of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5).

OJL 1 is designed to enhance teacher competencies in integrating STEM education with local context in line with Kurikulum Merdeka. The key objectives of the programme were including developing teaching materials related to local climate change and resource use, creating P5 modules that incorporate local STEM topics, and preparing teachers to implement STEM education in their classrooms.

The virtual opening ceremony was attended by 80 primary and middle school teachers from Siak, Kampar, Rokan Hilir, and Bengkalis Regencies. These teachers participated in In-Service Training sessions in September 2024 and are now continuing their professional development with OJL 1. The programme, which consists of a combination of online meetings and individual tasks carried out by teachers in their respective schools, is planned to last until the end of November 2024.

Mr Zuhe Safitra (SEAQIS Acting Director) led the opening ceremony for the first synchronous session and was followed by Dr Poppy Kamalia Devi who gave an orientation. The session featured breakout room discussions where teachers reflected on their progress, brainstormed project ideas, and planned future tasks, aiming to produce project titles and implementation plans.

This programme underscores SEAQIS’s commitment to improving education in collaboration with PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) WK Rokan, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills they need to meet future challenges.
