SEAQIS BRINGS INDONESIAN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TO THE 10TH BELT AND ROAD TEENAGER MAKER CAMP

As a member of BRISEC, SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) facilitated the Indonesian delegation to the 10th Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp and Teacher Workshop, held in Nanning, Guangxi, China, from 18–23 September 2026. The programme brought together teachers and students from different countries to explore science, technology, innovation, and maker-based learning through workshops, institutional visits, cultural experiences, and hands-on activities.

The programme provided participants with opportunities to explore science, technology, and innovation in the China–ASEAN context. The activities included a visit to the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo, where participants gained insights into technological developments and innovation across the region. Participants also took part in an Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience and Craft Making Workshop, combining creative activities with opportunities to learn about local cultural values, traditions, and skills.

The delegation continued with visits to the ASEAN Subtropical Botanical Garden and Guangxi Subtropical Crops Research Institute and the Guangxi Science and Technology Museum. These visits introduced participants to scientific research, science popularisation, and approaches to making science and technology more accessible to the wider community.

Participants also visited the Guangxi Academy of Artificial Intelligence, where they observed Teenager Maker Camp activities and explored learning experiences involving emerging technologies and innovation. The visit provided insights into how technology can be incorporated into hands-on learning while encouraging creativity and problem-solving among young learners.

The programme also featured visits to the China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Collaborative Innovation Centre and the China-ASEAN Satellite Remote Sensing Application Centre. Through these visits, participants gained broader exposure to developments in artificial intelligence, regional technological innovation, and satellite remote sensing applications.

The programme provided opportunities for teachers and students to exchange experiences with participants from different countries and gain new perspectives on science, technology, and innovation education. Through maker activities, institutional visits, and cultural exchanges, the programme also encouraged participants to explore how hands-on learning and emerging technologies can support engaging learning experiences.

SEAQIS’ involvement in this global programme also strengthened its international engagement and provided opportunities for Indonesian teachers and students to connect with the wider global science and education community. By facilitating teacher and student engagement at the global level, SEAQIS continues to promote international learning opportunities and collaboration in STEM, innovation, and science education.
