Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought many significant changes in human life. It has fundamentally changed the way people move and has a big influence on many aspects of human life, including in economy, security systems, politics, and education. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought positive influences on the effectiveness and efficiency of resources and production costs in many industries. Yet, it also has an impact on reducing employment, and the emergence of a number of new challenges which are not necessarily easier.
To cater to these recent issues regarding the industrial revolution 4.0 and society 5.0, SEAQIS, in collaboration with Association of Robotics for Education of Indonesia, conducted a two-day seminar theming on STEM and Robotics. The seminar was conducted on 22 – 23 November 2019 and attended by 250 participants consisting of teachers, principals, university students, instructors, and other stakeholders. It was officially opened by the Director of CDETEP in Science, Mr Enang Sumarna.
The seminar presented four keynote speakers namely Dr Totok Suprayitno, Head of Research and Development Agency of Ministry of Education and Culture, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, the Indonesian SEAMEO Centres Coordinator, Dr Sediono Abdullah, the Education Technology Developer of Pustekkom, and Dr Hayashi Yusuke from Hiroshima University. Alongside the four speakers, there were other presenters presented their research in STEM education, and there was also a talk show talking about robotics for education in Indonesia. During the seminar, there was exhibition of robotics for education. In addition, the students of SEAMEO School 4.0 displayed their works.
The seminar was officially closed by the Director of SEAQIS, Dr Indrawati. In her closing remarks, she expressed her gratitude to the participants for attending the seminar enthusiastically. She stated that the seminar will be conducted annually, as a part of celebrating the National Teacher’s Day.
